Community Calls: The Ecosystem Advantage
Medsphere believes, quite simply, that more sources of development are better than fewer—especially with a product like OpenVista that is derived from a system (VistA) with an existing, engaged and enthusiastic community. The Healthcare Open Source Ecosystem, headquartered at Medsphere.org, gives OpenVista users the freedom and support necessary to eliminate vendor lock and collaborate with a broader creative community. This open-source/community approach adds infinite resources to what Medsphere alone can offer.
As we nurture this organic ecosystem, which revolves around VistA-based IT solutions, the benefits flow back to the customer in the form of OpenVista enhancements and upgrades. Medsphere ...
- first reviews and evaluates these enhancements
- then QAs and tests those determined to have value to the community at large
- and finally incorporates them into later releases
Open Source enables community members to see what Medsphere is doing, which builds trust and shared commitment, and focuses on the patient as the primary beneficiary of OpenVista development efforts.
To marshal the resources of the Ecosystem, Medsphere organizes a series of community calls focused on different applications of the OpenVista system. For months now the company has led generalized community calls with themes such as creating a health information exchange, achieving go-live success and defining meaningful use. More recently, we have also put together discussions oriented around OpenVista application in the behavioral health and academic environments.
For all substantive discussion, Medsphere records the community calls and posts audio and video on Medsphere.org. Several months of community calls are available here for you to review.
Medsphere's community events calendar makes the entire Ecosystem aware of upcoming events, including dates and times, registration information and topics of discussion. Visit Medsphere.org and the events calendar regularly to stay up to date on OpenVista-related discussions and learn how you can contribute to Transforming Healthcare Through Open Source.
